Abstract
As healthcare professionals, pharmacists are responsible for medicine disposal, must have good behavior toward medicine disposal. The improper medicine disposal can lead to environmental problems and the remains of drugs that are disposed of offhandedly can be misused. This cross-sectional study aimed to assess knowledge, attitude, and practice of medicine disposal among community pharmacists in Surabaya. The data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire that had been tested for its validity and reliability. The questionnaire was circulated online through social media such as Whatsapp and Line. There were 86 community pharmacists who agreed to participate in this study. The result showed that almost all respondents (n=59; 68,6%) carried out their disposal. Respondents showed good knowledge (n=75; 87,2%), positive attitude (n=85; 98,8%), and moderate practice (n=73; 84,9%) in disposal of medicine waste. A significant correlation was shown in knowledge and attitude (p=0,008), but there was no significant correlation between age and job experience as a pharmacist (p>0,05) towards disposal of medicine. The conclusion of this study shows that pharmacist has good knowledge and attitude, and moderate practice of medicine disposal. Knowledge and attitude towards good disposal did not significantly related to good practice in disposal of medicine. Age and job experience were not related to the knowledge, attitude, and practice of respondents regarding disposal of medicine.
