Abstract

This research aimed to determine the effect of Acalypha indica L. extract on the diameter of seminiferous tubules and spermatogonium cells of rats (Rattus norvegicus) exposed by Monosodium glutamate (MSG). There were five groups; K(-), K(+), P1, P2, and P3, in which each group consists of 4 rats, respectively. K(-) was a control group treated by CMC-Na 1%. K(+) was orally exposed by MSG 4 g/kg BW for 30 days. P1, P2, and P3 were given by Acalypha indica L. extract for 30 days; P1 (210 mg/kg BW), P2 (420 mg/kg BW), and P3 (840 mg/kg BW), an hour before exposed by MSG 4 g/kg BW. The result showed significantly different (p<0,05) on diameter of seminiferous tubules laid among group K(+) (655.36 ± 20.64), P1 (729.48 ± 44.05), P2 (805.83 ± 23.93), in spermatogonium cells K(+) (14.25 ± 2.04), P2 (24.55 ± 4.45) and K(-) (28.65 ± 6.27). It could be concluded that the dose of 420 mg/kg BW in P2 was the optimum dose to improve the diameter of seminiferous tubules and spermatogonium cells on the testicles of rats exposed MSG 4g/kg BW.
