Abstract

Lead is taken into the body can increase the production of ROS can affect the reproductive system. Tomato contains high antioxidants (Lycopene) that can be used to suppress oxidative stress-induced lead in animal experiments. This research aimed to identify the effects of tomato juice on Leydig cell count and the diameter of seminiferous tubules in mice exposed to lead acetate. The study was a true experimental study using a randomized posttest only control group design. The subjects of the study were 25 mice, divided into 5 groups (each group consisting of 5 mice). K- the group was the control group without lead acetate and tomato juice, K+ group was given 100 mg/kg lead acetate for 14 days, P1 group was given 100 mg/kg lead acetate for 14 days and 0,16 ml/day tomato juice on the 8th day until 35th day, P2 group was given 100 mg/kg lead acetate for 14 days and 0,32 ml/day tomato juice on the 8th day until 35th day, and P3 group was given 100 mg/kg lead acetate for 14 days and 0,64 ml/day tomato juice on the 8th day until 35th day. The result showed a significant difference in all variables. Results showed significant differences in the Leydig cell count and significant differences in the diameter of seminiferous tubules between groups: K-, K+, P1, P2, and P3. In conclusion, tomato juice increase Leydig cell count and the diameter of seminiferous tubules in mice exposed to lead acetate with the effective dose is a dose of 0,32 ml/day.
