Translation method becomes an important element on literary works since many literary works are written in various languages. One of the literary work is novel. In order to produce a good translation, the translator should know about the good method or the way in translating the novel. This thesis elaborated the translation method on Jojo Moyes’s book entitled “The Girl You Left Behind” by using Newmark's (1988) theory about translation method. The aim of this research is to find out what translation method used in translating the target text and what translation methods are used the most in translating this novel. The data are collected from the letter of Sophie and David which are the main character of the novel. The source text (ST) of the data is the English version book while the target text (TT) is the Indonesian version book. There are eight methods mentioned by Newmark (1988) there are; word-for-word translation, literal translation, semantic translation, adaptation, free translation, faithful translation, idiomatic translation and, communicative translation. The writer used qualitative approacheto analyze the findings and conclude the research. The data that found in the novel are 14 letters, 52 paragraphs, and 151 sentences. Among eight methods, there are four methods found in this novel, the methods are; literal translation (27%), semantic translation (44%), faithful translation (20%), and free translation (9%). As a result, semantic translation is frequently used to translate this novel with 44% of percentage.
