Abstract

Code switching becomes something common phenomenon. The phenomenon also happen in social media, for instance; instagram, facebook, twitter, tiktok, and youtube. This study focuses on the code switching on podcast videos in youtube and examines the podcast videos of Deddy Corbuzier in Close The Door. The purpose of this study is to analyze and describe the types of code switching and the functions of code switching produced by Deddy Corbuzier through three different podcast videos. This study applies qualitative approach in analyzing the data. This study uses the theory of code switching proposed by Wardhaugh (2006) in order to analyze the types of code switching produced by Deddy Corbuzier. This study also uses the theory of code switching proposed by Hoffmann (1991) in order to reveal the functions of code switching by Deddy Corbuzier. The results of this study show that Deddy Corbuzier produced all of the types of code switching and those types of code switching convey particular functions. The most frequently used type of code switching based on the sentence structure is intra-sentential code switching, while based on the motivation, it is situational code switching. In addition, the code switching functions mostly is to talk about particular topic.
