Abstract

Para methoxy cinnamic acid (PMCA), a hydrolyzed product of ethylp- methoxycinnamic (EPMC) has been shown to have anti-inflammatory activity. In order to find innovative ways for adminestering APMS, alternative delivery system such as solid lipid nanoparticle (SLN) has been developed. The aim of this study was to observe anti-inflammatory effectivity of PMCA-SLN (beeswax:glyceryl monostearat = 50:50) binary system, in comparison with PMCA-simple cream. Their effectiveness were evaluated in croton oil-induced inflammaton in mice ears by histological examinations. The composition of SLN and simple cream are p-methoxycinnamic acid 1,67 %, tween 80 10 %, propylene glycol 20 %, and acetate buffer pH 4,2 ± 0,2. APMS-SLN was prepared by high shear homogenization method and stirred at 24000 rpm for 8 minutes. While the APMS-simple cream was prepared by magnetic stirrer and stirred at 400 rpm for 5 minutes. Anti-nflammatory effectiveness were evaluated as a parameter of skin thickness and inflammatory cell infiltration. According to histological examination induced by croton oil showed that toppically applied of PMCA-SLN in mice ear significantly decreased skin thickness and inflammatory cell infiltration compared to positive control. Meanwhile, PMCA-simple cream was not able to decrease skin thickness and inflammatory cell infiltration compared to positive control. It can be concluded that SLN was able to enhance effectivity of APMS as topical anti-inflammatory, in comparison with PMCAsimple cream.
