Abstract

Hydrazide derivatives are known to have various biological activities such as tuberculostatic activity, antibacterial activity, antifungal activity, and monoamine oxidase inhibitory activity. p-Hydroxybenzohydrazide was used further more as intermediate compound for synthesis of hydrazide derivatives. p-Hidroxybenzohydrazide was synthesized by nucleophilic substitution reaction of methyl p-hidroxybenzoate and hydrazine hydrate (1:5). This compound was synthesized by conventional heating and microwave irradiaton. By conventional heating, the mixture of methyl p-hidroxybenzoate and hydrazine hydrate were reflux for 5 hours. While synthesized using microwave irradiation were synthesis for 10 minutes and power 160 Watt. p-Hidroxybenzohydrazide was obtained as amorphous lightweight and white crystal with yield 66,80% ± 0,0372 by conventional heating method, and 83,19% ± 0,0401 by microwave irradiation method. The persentage of synthesized product of both method was compared by independent t test statistic analysis. The product was characterized by melting point, TLC test, UV-Vis spectrophotometry, IR and 1H NMR spectroscopy. The results showed that microwave-assisted synthesis lead to higher yields within very short reaction times than the conventional method.
