Abstract

A research entitled "The Use of Dielectric Pads as a Solution to Dielectric Artifacts on MRI Abdomen Examination". The purpose of this study was to examine the physical meaning contained in dielectric pads as a reduction in dielectric artifacts on the MRI examination of the Abdomen and to know the use of dielectric pads for image quality on the MRI of the Abdomen. This research was conducted at the Surabaya Brain Clinic Installation of Radiology using an MRI 3 Tesla. In this study, Abdomen MRI examination was performed before using dielectric pads and after using dielectric pads in 3 samples. Data analysis was carried out quantitatively with the Region of Interest (ROI) method on MRI computers to determine the value of Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) and the value of Contrass to Noise Ratio (CNR) as well as analysis of dielectric artifacts. The variation in the use of dielectric pads significantly influences the SNR and CNR values in the human tissues as well as the dielectric artifact signal. The effect of using dielectric pads on the MRI Abdomen examination is that it can cause a better SNR value than before using dielectric pads so this can affect the quality of the human tissues image. The use of dielectric pads also affects the dielectric artifact so that the inhomogenity quality of the pulse can be reduced and the image is seen more clearly. Optimal image quality is determined by increasing SNR and CNR values. Dielectric pads consist of materials with high permittivity to adjust the distribution of magnetic components from the radiofrequency waves.
