Abstract

This thesis reports is a research on The Optimizing of CT Scan Image Quality With The Current of The Tube and Scan Method Variations. The purpose of this research is to know the effect of the current of the tube and scan method on image quality involved with the analysis of Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) and Uniformity CT number and also to know the value of the current of the tube and scan methods that produce on optimal image. This research uses CT scan of water phantom head result at the 120 kV tube voltage and 140 mA current tube variations, 200 mA, 260 mA and 280 mA with axial and helical methods. The analysis of SNR can be done by comparing the value of mean object (N) with the standard deviation or noise at the background, meanwhile the analysis of CT Number uniformity can be done by finding the difference of CT number or central mean with the edge of homogeneous image. CT number and standard deviation can be established by measuring the Region Of Interest (ROI) at the RadiAnt DICOM viewer software. Based on statistical result using SPSS application with Factorial Test and Spearman’s Correlation, can be found that the current of the tube and scan method have significant effect toward SNR value and CT number uniformity. The increase of the current tube will producing the increase of the SNR value and decreasing CT number uniformity, meanwhile the effect of scan method toward SNR value and CT number uniformity are helical method is bigger than axial method. Optimal image quality is definite by highest SNR value, and also having the value close to zero. In this research the SNR value and CT number uniformity at the both method, being optimal at the current tube 280 mA with SNR and CT number uniformity value 4,818 x 101 ± 1,731 and 4,813 x 10-1 ± 1,109 x 10-1 in the axial method then 6,896 x 101 ± 3,790 and 7,840 x 10-1 ± 1,795 x 10-1 in the helical method.
