Abstract
The aim of this study was to synthesize N’-(4-hydroxy-3- methoxybenzylidene)isoniazide using microwave irradiation method. The target compound was synthesized by reacting vanilline with isoniazide (2:1). Purity test was done by thin layer chromatography (TLC) and melting point. As a comparison, N’-benzylideneisoniazide was synthesized by reacting benzaldehyde with isoniazide (2:1) to prove that vanilline (4-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzaldehyde) is more reactive than benzaldehyde in reaction with isoniazide. Identifications of synthesized compound (product) were confirmed by UV-VIS, FT-IR and 1H-NMR spectroscopy. Percentage yield of N’-(4-hydroxy-3- methoxybenzylidene)isoniazide and N’-benzylideneisoniazide were 82 % and 77 %, respectively.
