Abstract

Periodontal disease might occur as a result of complex interplay between etiology factors and host immune response. Periodontal disease etilogy is multi-factorial. The main cause of periodontal disease is microorganisms, one of them is Porphyromonas gingivalis. An invasion of Porphyromonas gingivalis to periodontal tissue can induced periodontal extracellular matrix degradation. This mechanism involves host immune response activity of intracellular protein, RelA/p65. The purposed of this study was to observe level of RelA/p65 in the rat gingival junctional epithelium that exposed to Porphyromonas gingivalis. Eighteen Wistar rats were divided into 2 groups at random. Group 1 (treatment): 9 rats were given with bacteria. Group 2 (control): 9 rats were given with aquadest. GCF sample was collected from gingival sulcus. Then the samples were analyzed with ELISA. Data were analyzed statistically by using independent t-test (α=0,05). Examination for RelA/p65 level showed there was significant difference between treatment group and control group (p<0.05). Level of RelA/p65 in treatment group was significantly higher than control group. This study show that Porphyromonas gingivalis induction to junctional epithelium gingival cause increase RelA/p65 level.
