Abstract

Gingivectomy is the excision of gingival tissue, usually to remove the diseased wall of a periodontal pocket (true pocket or pseudopocket). The main indication for gingivectomy is fibroblastic gingival enlargements. Gingival enlargement also known as gingival overgrowth is defined as increase in the size of gingiva. Gingival enlargement can be caused by a wide variety of etiologies. Plaque-induced inflammation can be the sole cause of gingival enlargement or can be the secondary cause. Gingival enlargement can be a functional and esthetic disparity so therapy to control gingival enlargement is essential. In this presentation a 20̻years̻old, systemically healthy, non̻smoking female presented with the complaint of bleeding gums and gingival enlargement in upper fractured teeth causing un̻aesthetic appearance. Improvement of facial esthetics contributed to the self̻confidence of an adult periodontal patient with pathologic gingival enlargements
