Abstract

Background. Antegonial angle was hollow at the junction between the ramus and mandibular body, A theory mentioned that there was a relationship between sex, race, and ethnic. In addition there was also a difference between the right and left side of the antegonial angle. However, there were just few researches about antegonial angle in the world and there was no observation about antegonial angle in Indonesia. This study would observe and analyze antegonial angle on Javanese by differentiating the sex and antegonial angle in left and right side. Purpose. To see the value of left and right side mandibular antegonial angle from Javanese men and women in Surabaya, based on panoramic radiography. Result. The mean of antegonial angle in men was 160.22o (right side was 159.64o, left side was 160.79o) and in women was 166.65o (right side was 166.56o, left side was 166.74o). Conclusion. There was significant difference of antegonial angle between men and women (p < 0.05). Women’s antegonial angle was greater than men’s antegonial angle, but there was no difference of antegonial angle between right side and left side (p > 0.05).
