Abstract

This paper discusses the translation of idioms in Japanese language novels were translated into Indonesian. This study uses a novel object Botchan ous Souseki Natsume works with novel translated into Indonesian. the purpose of this study was to analyze the techniques and strategies used in the translation of what the novel Botchan idiom translation. The approach used in this research is descriptive analytic. The findings of the data is 18 data. Results of this research note that the form of idioms Japanese translation of the novel Botchan opus Natsume Souseki after translated into Indonesian consists of two kinds, namely fixed-shaped idiom, for example, 顔を汚す (kao wo yogosu) = mencoreng wajah, and not in the form of idioms, examples, 手に入れ る (te ni ireru) = mendapatkan. Then for the translation techniques used there are three techniques, namely the shape shifting (transposition), a shift in meaning (modulation), as well as contextual matching. And strategies used there are four strategies, namely strategies using more general words, more neutral words, paraphrasing relating to the idiom, and paraphrase that are not related to the idiom
