Abstract
Eiji Yoshikawa is recognized as one of the best historical novelists in Japan. He was awarded the Order of Cultural Merit in 1960 (the highest award for a man of letters in Japan), the Order of the Sacred Treasure, and the Mainichi Art Award. The object of this research is one of Eiji Yoshikawa's works titled Minamoto no Yoritomo. This novel is Yoshikawas 41st and 42nd works. This research aims to explain the role of the noblewoman who exist in the novel. This research uses the theory of gender roles, namely the theory of nature and nurture theory.
