Abstract

Urinary incontinence (UI) is defined as loss of urine that cannot be controlled and cause social or hygienic problem. Spontaneous vaginal delivery is a risk factor for stress urinary incontinence (SUI) due to pelvic floor trauma during childbirth. This study aimed to investigate proportion of SUI and analyze the risk factors of SUI in primiparous more than 42 days after spontaneous vaginal delivery. This study was an analytical study with cross-sectional approach. All of the primiparous more than 42 days after they did spontaneous vaginal delivery at Puskesmas Sidotopo Wetan, Puskesmas Tanah Kali Kedinding, Puskesmas Jagir and Puskesmas Dupak during the period of May-June 2013 was selected by using consecutive sampling method. Independent variables which consisted of duration second stage of labor, infant birth weight and degree of perinea laceration were collected from partograph. The dependent variable which was SIU was collected by interview and cough test. Data were analyzed by Fisher's exact test. A total of 82 primiparas were included in this study. The proportion of SUI more than 42 days after doing spontaneous vaginal delivery was 3.7%. There was no significant correlations among infant birth weight, duration second stage of labor and degree of perinea laceration with SUI. Etiology of SUI was multifactorial. Further studies with different design are still needed in order to learn more about risk factors of SUI after delivery.
