Abstract

Knowledge is very important to show people's ability in practising their knowledge in daily living, especially to form the quality of child growth and development. The purpose of this research to identify the relationship between parent's knowledge about basic need and child growth and development with toddler's growth and development in Child Growth and Development Polyclinic RSU Dr. Soetomo Surabaya. Design used in this study was cross sectional. Sample consisted of parents who have toddler children who get delayed of growth and development. The independent variables were the knowledge of parent about basic need and child growth and development. The dependent variables were growth and developmental of toddler children. Data were collected using questionnaire, National Center for Health Statistic (NCHS) and Denver Developmental Screening Test (DDST) form. Data were then analyzed using Spearman Rank Correlation test with level of significance of 0.05. Result showed that there is no correlation between the knowledge of parents about basic need of children with the children's weight growth (p=0.196, r=-0.239), the children's height growth (p=0.083, r=-0.316) and their development (p=0.614, r=0.094). The knowledge of parents about child growth and development with the children's weight growth (p=0.337, r=-0.178), the children's height growth (p=0.582, r=-0.103), and their development (p=0.144, r=0.269). The research can be concluded that there is no correlation between the knowledge parents about basic need and child growth and development with toddler's growth and development. It is apparent that child growth and development are not only influenced by knowledge but also by genetic factors, hereditary factors and environmental factors.
