Abstract

Background. Changes in the oral cavity, such as gingivitis, periodontitis and other manifestations of poor oral health, are common in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Several studies show that uremic patients have higher rates of decayed, missing, and filled teeth, loss of attachment, and periapical and mucosal lesions than the general population. The consequences of poor oral health may be more severe in CKD patients because of advanced age, common comorbidities such as diabetes, concurrent medications, and a state of immune dysfunction that may increase the risk for systemic consequences of periodontitis and other oral and dental pathologic conditions. Purpose. The aim of this study was to evaluate the gingival health status (gingival index and oral hygiene index) of patients with differences stages of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in Polyclinic renal – hypertension RSUD Dr. Soetomo. Method. 60 patients, 30 female and 30 male was measured GFR to know stages of chronic kidney disease (CKD). Calculate gingival index (GI) and oral hygiene index (OHIs). the data presented similar characteristics with regard to sex, age,and stages of chronic kidney disease.The data were compared and examined with one-way ANOVA and T-test. Result. There was significant difference were found in GI and OHIs distribution among stages of chronic kidney disease (CKD), gender, and age. Conclusion. CKD stage effect on gingival health status in patients with chronic kidney disease in renal-hypertensive Polyclinic Hospital Dr. Soetomo.
