Abstract

When applied to the maxilla, denture always cover part or all of the surface of the hard palate. On the hard palate contains the formation of raphae and palatine rugae. Sometimes formation raphae and palatine rugae are not made on the denture, so the denture is smooth and glossy. It can interfere with the pronunciation of consonants L and R because the tip of the tongue resting on the palatine rugae and raphae when two consonants are pronounced. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to find out palatine rugae effect in the manufacture of maxilla acrylic plate to the pronounciation of consonants L and R. Material and Method: The study was conducted on thirty respondents. Each respondent is given three treatments, they are without using acrylic plate (as control), the rugae on acrylic plate and acrylic plate without rugae. Each treatment performed tests pronunciation "Lalalalala" and "Rarararara", then viewed the frequency of each data and compared. Kolmogorov-Smirnov test to know normal distribution, then Friedman test and Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test for further analyze. Result: There is significant differency between each treatments, p<0.05. Conclusion:. To making replica rugae and raphae palatine on maxillary denture does not influence significantly on pronunciation of consonant L and R.
