Abstract

Background :Direct pulp capping is one of treatment to save dentin. It’s technique used to seal the dental pulp, which may became exposed due to mecanical or chemical factors as well as bacterial activity, and this stimulates reparative dentin formation. The therapeutic use of propolis in dentistry has been done in recent years as in treatment gingivitis, pulp capping and dental caries, in treatment wound healing after surgical procedures, etc. Propolis, as one of the honey bee products has been the focus of attention by many investigators in order to evaluate its biological properties. Propolis shows a complex chemical composition. Its biological properties such as antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, among other activities, have attracted the researchers' interest. Reports have pointed out propolis efficient activity against Gram-positive bacteria and limited action against Gram-negative bacteria Propolis has The aim of present study was to compare the antibacterial activity of Calcium hydroxide and Propolis against lactobacillus aciphilus. Materials and Methods : EEP was diluted in aquadest to 8%. This experimental study was conducted to evaluate antimicrobial activity of EEP in minimal bateriosid consentration (8%) and calcium hydroxide paste mixed with aquades steril. Lactobasillus were grown in rogosa agar and incubated for 24 and 48 hours, at 37° C. Antibacterial activity was reflected by the diameter of the inhibition zones. It was calculated using SPSS program. Independent T-test was used to comparison it.Results:EEP was more effective against Lactobacillus,8.53mean diameter of inhibitory zone for EEP. The difference was statistically significant (P<0.000) indicating that EEP was less effective against experimental microorganisms than Ca(OH)2. Ca(OH)2 is more effective than EEP in 8%. Conclusion: EEP in MBC (8%) has antibacterial affect to lactobasillus acdophilus.
