Abstract

Background. Every patients who have received treatment in oral & maxillofacial surgery clinic were easy to get infected when clinic have high number of microorganisms. A large number of pathogenic microorganisms in the clinic room was influenced by various factors , such as the number of visitors in the clinic room. Purpose. The aim of this study was to observed the correlation between the number of visitors with the number of microorganism colonies in oral & maxillofacial surgery clinic RSGM-P FKG Universitas Airlangga. Method. The sample were divided into three groups, there were control group (at 7 o’clock), low visitors group (at 12o’clock), and high visitors group (at 9 o’clock). Number of sample in this study were 3 petri dish each group for 3 days, total sample for this study were 27 petri dish. This study was conducted by calculating the number of microorganism colonies in blood agar that have already contaminated in the clinic room for 5 minutes. Result. The study result was control group earn an average of 6 colonies, high visitors group earn an average of 14 colonies, and low visitors group earn an average of 11 colony. Conclusion. Colonies of microorganism increases when there were high visitors in oral surgery & maxillofacial clinic. Need some regulations to lower the number of microorganism colonies.
