Abstract

Background : Surface hardness is one of the mechanical properties of materials that need to be considered in the production of composite materials. Nanohybrid composite is one of a fairly new type of composite with a mixture of nano materials and fine particles that can improve the mechanical properties of the composite. Acid is one of the organic material in the oral cavity that always in contact with the composite and affect the release of a composite material which can reduce the surface hardness. Aim : The aim of this study was to examine whether there were significant differences in the composite nanohybrid due to changes in pH produced lactic acid and acetic acid. Method : Total 12 samples of nanohybrid cylindrical composite were prepared for test soaking in acid, with 4 samples in each group. This samples were soaked in distilled water, lactic acid, and acetic acid for 7 days. After 7 days, the materials were tested the surface hardness with Vickers Microhardness Tester. Data were taken and tested statistically. Result : By using One Way ANOVA, there was a significant differences in surface hardness in the entire group. By using the Tukey HSD Test, found no significant difference between soaking in distilled water with lactic acid, and lactic acid with acetic acid, but there was a significant difference between the distilled water with acetic acid. Conclusion: There is no difference in surface hardness of nanohybrid composite soaked in lactic acid and acetic acid.
