Abstract

Background. Oral candidiasis is an infection that occur oftenly in HIV patient. Most of the cases are caused by Candida albicans. There are some of non Candida albicans spesies that can caused Oral Candidiasis such as Candida tropicalis. There is an increase in Candida tropicalis infection in immunocompromised patient. Some study show that Candida tropicalis is more virulent than Candida albicans. Avocado seed is a plant that very easy to be found. It is proven to have so many medicinal effect such as antifungal effect. Purpose. The aim of this study was to find the exact concentration (MIC and MFC) of Avocado (Persea Americana) towards the growth of Candida tropicalis Method. This research is a true experimental research. Candida tropicalis inoculum taken from HIV patient with Oral candidiasis then incubated in Sabouraud broth liquid to let the Candida tropicalis growth. Dry Avocado seed powder made into infusion liquid diluted for 8 times to get concentration from 100% until 0,78%. The inoculum then dipped into avocado seed infusion and put on the sabouraud dextrose agar media, after 24 hours the colony would be counted. Result. There was growth of Candida tropicalis colony in every concentration, started from the lowest concentration, 0,78% until the highest concentration, 100%. Conclusion Infusion method is not effective on avocado seed. It is shown that avocado seed infusion does not have any antifungal effect on Candida tropicalis due to the growth of Candida tropicalis colony in every infusion concentration started from 100% concentration until 0,78% concentration.
