Abstract

Background: Dentures acrylic resin can become the accumulation area of stain, tar, and plaque. That give bad effect for denture wearer oral health. Sambiloto leaf extract has antifungal effect that can help to reduce Candida albicans colony in acrylic resin.Purpose: To find out the effectiveness of sambiloto leaves extract ( Andrographis paniculata ) Candida albicans colony in heat cured acrylic resin. Method: This research use The Post Test Control Group Design with 42 specimens divided groups with control (aquades) and sambiloto leaf extract 6,25%, 12,5%, 25%, 50% and 75% concentration. The heat cured acrylic resin was incubated in Saborroud’s broth containing Candida albicans, then immersed in sambiloto leaf extract for 30 minutes. The colony forming unit (CFU) of Candida albicans was counted after 24 hours incubation on Saborroud’s agar. The data was analyzed with the Kruskal- wallis and Mann whitney.Result : For Mann whitney test there were significant differences between each group (p>0.05).Conclusion: Sambiloto leaf extract was effective in reducing the growth of colonies Candida albicans in heat cured acrylic resin.
