The content of breast milk and formula milk is the carbohydrate consisting of lactose and sucrose which can be fermented by bacteria, especially bacteria cause caries is Streptococcus. Purpose. To observe of differences in the prevalence of early childhood caries (ECC) and colonization of Streptococcus mutans in children who are breastfed exclusively with breast milk + formula. Method. Give questionnaire for each mother of children in posyandu. The questionnaire contains questions about the frequency, duration of consumption of breast milk, breast milk + formula for child then do a dental examination and enter data obtained included in the index after the def-s sampling Streptococcus mutans by cheek swab on children and grown in BHI medium (Brain Heart Infusion). After 24 hours incubation, the media was diluted and replanted at TYC media (Tryptone Yeast cysteine) for 48 h incubation then Streptococcus mutans can be done counting. Result. Index value def-s and Streptococcus mutans in the sample of children who are breastfed + formula is greater than the sample of children who are breastfed and the results of the questionnaire are supported also contains the frequency, timing, and duration of consumption of milk child. Conclusion. Prevalence of early childhood caries (ECC) is more likely in children who are breastfed + formula compared with children who are breastfed.
