Abstract

Background. Tooth extraction may lead to tissue damage. The process of wound healing is a cellular process which restores the integrity of the tissue.structure Tissue in wound healing requires a supply of oxygen and nutrients in order to proliferate well. Angiogenesis plays an important role in the process. Turmeric can affect angiogenesis in vitro since it contains flavonoids which serve as immunostimulant, thus increase the growth factors and wound healing after tooth extraction. Purpose. To know the effective concentration of turmeric’s extract influencing the increased angiogenesis in the socket Cavia cobaya after tooth extraction. Method. Laboratory experiment with post test only controlled group design, using 24 male Cavia cobaya, divided into 4 groups. Their sinistra insisivus mandibula were extracted, and CMC-Na was applied on control group while the other three intervention groups using 15%, 30%, and 45% turmeric’s extract gel, respectively. The observations were made on the third day by counting the blood vessel lumens and using histopathological samplings. Finally, data were analyzed using one way ANOVA. Result. Giving turmeric’s extract gel topically in Cavia cobaya socket after tooth extraction, can reduce the number of blood vessel lumen. In statistical test (p<0.05), a significant difference between the control and intervention groups could be obtained. Conclusion. The function of turmeric’s extract gel topically, can decrease angiogenesis in wound healing after tooth extraction of Cavia cobaya on the third day when compared to control group.
