Abstract

Background. Plaque can be attached to denture, and the attachment of the plaque can lead be less well oral hygiene. Chemically denture can be cleaned by immersing dentures in cleaning solution. By using a immersion of red ginger infusion of 7.5% could be an alternative denture cleanser. Effect of immersion infuse red galangal (Alpinia purpurata k. Schum) to the surface hardness of acrylic resin is still unknown.Purpose. The purpose of this study was to determine the decrease in surface hardness of acrylic resin after immersed red ginger infusion. Method. After make specimen (65 x 2,5 x 10 mm) were immersed in aquadest for 2 day, after that sample immersed in infusion red galangal for 7, 14, 21, and 28 days, followed by measuring the surface hardness with Micro Vickers Hardness. Result. After calculate with Kruskal-Wallis, the values obtained 0,700 (P > 0,05). This shows that there was no significant differences between sample group. Conclusion. It showed no significant decrease in surface hardness after immersion with red ginger infusion.
