Abstract

Background : HELLP syndrome is hemolytic, elevated liver enzyme and low platelet. There is no specific and effective treatment to improve HELLP syndrome condition. However, some evidence recommend the use of corticosteroid which might improve condition of HELLP syndrome. Corticosteroid for HELLP syndrome is still controversial. Objective : To study the profile of corticosteroids therapy in severe preeclampsia with HELLP syndrome patient. Method : It was a retrospective study with descriptive analysis which performed at obstetric gynecology department Dr. Soetomo Hospital Surabaya. Results : All of patients in this study used intravenous dexamethasone. Dose regimentation of dexamethasone for PEB with HELLP syndrome was 4x2 ampoule with tapering dose depend on the individual response. Dexamethasone was given before (12%) or after delivery (88%). In this study, corticosteroids tend to decrease the value of LDH, AST, ALT and increase platelet count. DRP in this study were increased GDA from 100,27 mg/dL to 161,29 mg/dL and potential drug interactions with diuretic, NSAIDs, and oral hormone. Conclusion : The type of corticosteroid used was intravenous dexamethasone with dose regimentation was depend on the individual response. Dexamethasone tend to improve LDH, AST, ALT and platelet count.
