Abstract

Background. Leukemia is the most kind of cancer that happen in children. In RSUD Dr. Soetomo Surabaya,2009, there are almost 145 childrens has Leukemia. Acute Limfoblastic Leukemia is the most among all, its about 75% from all cases. Chemotherapy ,such as, vinkristin and prednisone can make a perfect remission for almost 90% children. But, cell tumor in the blood can through to the brain and should have a craniospinal radiotherapy. Cytotoxic agent (mostly adriamycin) cause xerostomia. Direct stomatotoxicity effect in oral mucosa from using chemotherapy cause a xerostomia. Purposes. The aim of this study was to find out flow of saliva in the children who has a leukemia after chemotherapy . Material and Methods. There are 9 patients as sample in this research. This descriptif research using GC saliva check buffer for knowing flow of saliva without stimulation or with stimulation and def / DMF. Results. All of them have a low flow of saliva without stimulation. 6 patients have a low flow saliva with stimulation, and 3 patients have a very low flow saliva with stimulation. All of them also have a high score in def and DMF. Conclusion. From this research, all patients have xerostomia which probably cause an oral problem such as caries and candidiasis.
