Abstract

Background: paresthesias is one of the complications that may occur in third lowers molar odontectomy. Patient feel uncomfortable because of loosing sensation which may be permanent or temporary. Another important problem of paresthesias is lawsuits involving the dentist. In Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery clinic there is no detailed data on the distribution, length of treatment, the relationship of age, sex, position of the mandibular third molar teeth and mapping paresthesias. Purpose: This study aims to obtain files on the distribution, length of treatment, the relationship of age, sex , the position of the mandibular third molar teeth and mapping paresthesias. Method : The type of this study is observational description. Files from this study were obtained from medical record of odontectomy third lowers molars in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery 2009 - 2010 are compiled in the form of tabulations based on age, sex, mapping paresthesias, longer treatment, position of the mandibular third molar teeth. Result: From 769 cases third lowers molar odontectomy there are 16 patients (2.08%) paresthesias with details of 3 patients alveolaris inferior nerve and lingual nerve paresthesias, 8 patients alveolaris inferior nerve paresthesias, 5 lingual nerve paresthesias. From that cases, the paresthesias is temporary with length of treatment less than 6 months . Conclusion: Although the incidence of paresthesias is rare, operators must be carefull in third lowers molar odontectomy.
