Abstract

The experiment with ti ttle “Infusum Pegagan ( Centella asiatica [L] urban ) 10% As Material Gargle To Decrease Gingivitis Syndrome” was a clinical experimental research that purposed to know whether or not the gargle material of infusum pegagan 10% could de crease gingivitis. Gingi vitis is the cause from many cases of teeth loss in the world. By the present of pegagan gargles, is hoped it will be able to decrease gingivitis because the effect of this plant as antiinflammatory and antibacteria. Besides that, this plant is not toxic and save for use. The result that obtained from the re search was gargling with infusum pegagan 10% can decrease the gingivi tis. It was observed from significant decrease of gingivitis score index in th e early probing with in the seventh day probing. The antiinflammatory effect of pegagan is s upposed from the substance of this plant as triterpenoid glycoside such as asiaticoside, asiatic acid dan madecassic acid . Asiatic acid has potency to decrease the inflamma tory mediator such as IL-1, IL-6 dan tumor nekrosis factor (TNF). Asiaticoside also has the same effect, but in lower capacity
