Abstract

Resin modified glass ionomer cement is a mixture of hybrid ionomer liquid and powder irradiated for 40 seconds using light curing unit. The study examined solubility glass ionomer modified resin after immersion on different temperature. The composition of resin modified glass ionomer cement consist of vinyl-modified polyalkenoic acid, a water soluble methacrylate such as hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA), ion-leachable glass and water. Twentyfour resin disks (5 mm in diameter x 2 mm in thickness) divided into three groups were stored in deionized water at 5°C, 37°C and 55°C. Water solubility of the resin disks were measured after five hours immersion with Spectrophotometer (λ 420) . The water solubility values obtained, were analyzed using Kruskal-Wallis (p≤0,05). Kruskal – Wallis test was used as there is a difference between the amount of solubility of the resin modified glass ionomer cements and there was a significant difference. (p≤0,000). The test results showed that the solubility of three tested materials can be classified respectively from higher to lower as 55°C >37°C >5°C. The conclusion was high temperature of deionized water increased solubility of resin modified glass ionomer cement.
