Abstract

The purpose of this study was to know hepatoprotector potential of meniran (Phyllanthus niruri Linn) extract in alcohol induced rats. The research has been done on February, 2th 2014-April, 10th 2014 at Department of Veterinary Pathology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Airlangga University. Twenty five male rats (Rattus norvegicus strain Wistar) aged 60 days with BW 200 g were used. These animals were divided into five groups (P0, P1, P2, P3, and P4). P0 were treated with CMC Na 1% 1 ml/rats/day, P1 were treated with alcohol 25% 1 ml/rats/day, P2 were treated with extract of meniran 0,63 mg/rats/day and alcohol 25% 1 ml/rats/day and , P3 were treated with extract of meniran 2,7 mg/rats/day and alcohol 25% 1 ml/rats/day, and P4 were treated with extract of meniran 6,26 mg/rats/day.This research has been conducted for 21 days to determine the toxic effects of alcohol on the liver. The data were compared using Kruskal-Wallis test and Mann-Whitney test. Statistical comparisons were performed using SPSS v21.0 for windows. The research result showed the potential of meniran extract optimum dose 0,63 mg/rats/day and 2,7 mg/rats/days could protect hepatosit cells in alcohol induced rats.
