Abstract

This study aims to figure out the catfish’s ectoparasite prevalence in Duduk Sampeyan subdistrict, Gresik, especially in Sumengko and Petisbenem village. The study used 115 samples, 60 samples from Sumengko and 55 samples from Petisbenem. In order to know the presence of ectoparasite on catfish, parasitological examination was done by skin and gill scraping method, which then be used in native preparation for ectoparasite identification. Prevalence formula was used for data analysis because the study was descriptive. The result of this study shows that 96,67% of catfish cultivation pond in Sumengko and 92,73% of catfish cultivation pond in Petisbenem were infected with ectoparasite. There were 4 types of ectoparasite found: Trichodina sp., Epistylis sp., Dactylogyrus sp., Gyrodactylus sp. Ectoparasite incident in both villages of Duduk Sampeyan subdistrict is very high and can be considered as a plague. To reduce the high rate of incident of ectoparasite in catfish cultivation pond, an act of prevention by improved the breeding management and reducing the population of fish in the ponds is needed. The fish that infected by ectoparasite were treated with a certain dose of formalin.
