Abstract

The research was conducted to verify extract of red betel leaves (Piper betle Var. Rubrum) ability to increase time of incision wound healing that had infected Staphylococcus aureus on male Wistar Strain rats. Twenty five rats were randomly divided into five groups, there were control group, positive control(povidone iodine 10%), solution of red betel extract groups 12,5%, 25%, and 50% that had given topically. The research was done until 12th day or until the wound closed. The result showed that time of wound healing within control(without therapy) and solution extract of red betel leaves had significantly difference (p ˂ 0,05). Treatment with solution extract of red betel leaves increased time of wound healing that had infected Staphylococcus aureus. The time of wound healing of control, positive control, red betel extract groups 12,5%, 25%, and 50% is 11,00; 8,20; 8,60; 8,80; and 8,80 days respectively.
