Abstract
The aims of the research were to detect the number of Escherichia coli on minced meats which were sold in East Region of Surabaya Supermarkets and also to find out whether those minced meats were fulfilled the SNI 01-6366-2000 standards. The research used survey method then analyzed descriptively. There were eleven samples taken from eleven supermarkets on east region Surabaya. These samples were tested using three tubes series MPN method based on SNI 01-6366-2000, isolation identification using L-EMBA media, and biochemical test using IMViC test. The result shows that two of eleven samples could not fulfill the SNI standard, by having E.coli number more than 5 x 101 MPN/g. Both two samples were sample A and sample B with E.coli number 210 MPN/g . Improper slaughtering process, less-careful handling and poor sanitation were presumed become the reason of high E.coli numbers on those samples.
