Abstract

One of the important thing to determine nutritional status and health status of children is caring factor. The optimum caring practice can be held if resources for care are fulfilled. Working mothers can be positive or negative impact on the nutritional status of children associated with the availability of maternal care and the level of autonomy within household. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between resources for care with nutritional status of children of working mothers in the Simolawang Health Center, Simokerto District, Surabaya. This research was an observational analytic, used cross sectional design. The sample study was 49 people, taken randomly using the simple random sampling. Data collection included measuring weight and height, questionnaires, and the check list on the respondents consisting of father, mother, and alternate caregiver during mothers worked. The independent variable was resources of care consisting of knowledge of mothers, maternal health status, level of maternal stress, level of maternal autonomy, maternal workload, and social support, while the dependent variable was the nutritional status of children. Nutritional status of most children was normal for WFA, HFA, and WFH index. The results showed that there was a correlation between maternal autonomy to the nutritional status of children (p=0,044), but there was no correlation between maternal nutrition knowledge (p=0,741), maternal health status consisting of maternal nutritional status (p=0,229), number of children (p=0,933), birth spacing (p=0,695), mother's age when first delivery (p=0,191), and complications of pregnancy (p=1,000) with the nutritional status of children. The results also showed there was no correlation between maternal stress (p=0,804), maternal workload consisting of duration of work (p=0,537), duration of caregiving (p=0,796), and the quality of alternate caregiver (p=0,643) and social support (p=0,443) with the nutritional status of children. The conclusion of this study is that there is a correlation between maternal autonomy with the nutritional status of children, but there is no correlation between other resources for care with the nutritional status of children. Qualitative research should be done by indepth interview to collect more information and describe the relationship between resources for care with nutritional status of children actually.
