Abstract

Good housekeeping or a well-Implemented 5R program is one of the administrative controls used to prevent th e occurrence work accident. The successful implementation of 5R program depends on bo th management support especially top management and workers’ active participation. The main objective of this research was to study the implementation of 5R program as an effort to preventing the occurre nce of work accident in PT. Bintang Terang Gemilang Sidoarjo. This was an observational study with cross-sectional approach. The population of this study was 60 workers employed in production unit, and these 60 workers were also the samples of the study (total Population study). The primary data were collected by means of questionnaire to interview respondents and a checklist to directly observe the work sites. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively. The results of this study showed that 5R program had been well-implemented by the company. The workers’ knowledge and their attitudes toward the implementation of 5R program were sufficiently good. The type of work accident most widely found was fall down the floor (6.67%). It is recommended that the company provide regular refreshing training on occupational safety and health to all workers, and report any work accident to the authorized institution i.e. Regional Office of Departement of Man Power.
