Abstract

This study attempts to analyze the preferred and dispreferred responses found in the dialogues of three Senior High School’s electronic books (BSE) from www.bse.depdiknas.go.id : Developing English Competencies for Grade X, Grade XI, and Grade XII. Those three textbooks are chosen to be analyzed as the representation of the textbooks that are mostly used by Senior High School education practitioners in Indonesia. By analyzing the accuracy of the preferred and dispreferred responses within four action sequences: invitation, offer, request, and apology, Conversation Analysis (CA) theory is used as the parameter which focused on the preference structure of talk. This study uses descriptive qualitative method. The final result of this study that are some inaccurate dialogues found in those three textbooks. Besides, the writer also found grammatical mistakes in the dialogues of the three textbooks which may need a further analysis.
