Abstract

John Boyne’s The Boy in the Striped Pajamas is a Holocaust-themed novel that represents the “Jewish Question” in Nazi Germany. The events are described in implicit mannaer as the story runs through the narrative of a young German boy named Bruno. Through close reading on the story, the Nazi anti-Semitism propaganda is detectable. It results in the rise of the “Jewish Question” that leads into the “Final Solution”. The Nazis make initiative actions in following the government’s policy which is based on Hitler’s order. It includes the criminalization and mass murder of the Nazi’s enemies. The aims of this study are to examine the “Jewish Question” that lead to the “Final Solution” in Nazi Germany according to the ‘official’ and ‘revisionists’ versions of history and to dissect the portrayal of the “Jewish Question” that leads to the “Final Solution” in the novel. The writer uses New Historicism theory to dig more information about the “Jewish Question” and know the historicity of the novel. The story indicates several situations leading into a perception that those situations can be explained through data collecting. It is done to give more specific and accurate information of the events in the novel. The data are collected through library research on the selected topic.
