Abstract

This study discusses code mixing used by members of UKMKI UNAIR. It is intended to find out the reason why they apply code mixing in their daily activities and to find topic of conversation where they often use the code mixing. The writer takes the data from questionnaires he distributed to 33 members of UKMKI. In this study, the writer uses Fasold's language choice theory. This study uses qualitative descriptive. In taking the data, the writer takes a random sampling and does observations. The data from the questionnaires were rewritten and classified to tables. Then, the writer counted the frequency of the results of the questionnaires. Next, the writer made an interpretation. Based on the data analysis, the writer finds that the main reason for the members of UKMKI to apply code mixing is syi'ar, spreading Islamic values. In addition, the writer also finds that the members of UKMKI often apply code mixing in the organization using certain topics to conduct their activities.
