Abstract

Catch Me if You Can (1980) is a novel written by Frank William Abagnale, Jr. The novel tells about a teenager named Frank Abagnale. Frank is a boy whose parents are divorced. Then, he runs away from home. During his escape from home, Frank becomes a check swindler. Aside from becoming a check swindler, Frank impersonates several professions; pilot, doctor, lawyer, and teacher. The study is concentrated on Frank's identity. His identity is seen from his impersonation, check swindle and teenage identity. Further observation on Frank's identity is in the effort he makes to convince other people that each of his identity is a real identity. The writer applies hyperreality theory to analyze Frank's identity. The analysis on identit is seen through his effort to appear as a competent person in the occupation he Impersonates, as a customer through his check swindle, and his hyperreal teenage Identity.
