Abstract

Lembaga Kebudayaan Rakyat (Lekra) is the biggest organization in the Indonesian cultural movement’s history. Lekra had many branches in every big cities in Indonesia including in Surabaya. Actually, Lekra had their great influence in the civilization changes. Through the arts’ activities, Lekra also tried to broaden its organization. The ideas of Lekra’s concept were created in the form of the members’ activities and their creations. Lekra’s with their cultural politic asked the people to make a new humanism community that were free from the human determination. As a cultural movement, Lekra existed in the new Indonesian people that just had its independence. Lekra tried to create the cultural diversity though their creation and activities. Here, Lekra tried to support the traditional art and also accepted practically the culture from abroad for the improvement in the new Indonesian culture. In Surabaya, Lekra spread its organization through the traditional art like Ludruk. Lekra gave their support in Ludruk so that it could get an increase in the artistic and ideological quality. Surabaya’s Lekra supported the existence of the culture that was based on the community’s life. So, here was the cultural politic of Lekra, the unity of the creation, social environment and the cultural worker.
