Abstract

This is a descriptive-qualitative research done using phenomenology research method. The objects for this research are 10 (ten) members of ‘COSURA’. Data collecting process is done through observation and in-depth interview. This research is done using the theory of existentialism from several existentialist figures enlisted in “Psikologi Eksistensial: Suatu Pengantar”, and also the community theory by Victor Turner. It can be concluded from the research that ‘COSURA’ community is indeed place for Surabaya teenagers to show their existence. While the motives that drive them to join ‘COSURA’ are to show their creativity, to look for friends with the same interest, a means of self-satisfaction and a means to achieve popularity. Furthermore, the values they hold up in their community are solidarity and harmony within the community; the undergoing of tasks and obligations by all members; togetherness; and a clear distinction between the members of ‘COSURA’ and those outside the community. Moreover, with the absence of structure and non-utility based relationship, ‘COSURA’ can be included in normative community, since the experiences of brotherhood and family are more dominant a more utility.
