Abstract

Toxoplasmosis is a zoonosis disease caused by Toxoplasma gondii. Toxoplasmosis can be transmitted via congenital from mother to foetus through placenta. Eighteen female mice were impregnated and divided into two groups. The first group is a control group in which female mice were not infected. The second group is a treatment group in which female mice infected with dose 10 tackyzoite of T. gondii. Mice infected with tackyzoite at the gestational age of 8,5 days. Determination of gestational age are based on the presence of vaginal plug after mating counted as 0,5 day gestational age. Mice were euthanized at 18 days of gestational age by dislocatio os cervicalis. Skeletal changes were observed by alizerin red method. In result of statistical calculation by t test, the skeletal of mice fetus from parent which not infected by T. gondii (control) compare to skeletal of mice fetus from parent infected with T. gondii (treatment) showed significantly different (P>0.01) size decrease in group of fetus length, length of os cranium, os nasal, os frontal, os parietal, os radius ulna, os tibia fibula, os humerus and length of 1st os costae to 12th os costae, width of 1st os costae to 9th and 11th os costae, while in group of width of 10th and 12th os costae did not show any significantly different (P>0.01) size decrease. These results are similar to the opinion of Luqman (2005), which stated that gestational age of 10 days in mice is a critical period of palate organogenesis, sense organs (the formation of eyes, ears and nose) organogenesis axial and skeletal organogenesis.
