Abstract

This research examines local responses to globalization. It determines how globalization and localization are experienced in the local educational setting,with International Standard Madrasah (Madrasah Bertaraf Internasional) as a case in point. The purpose of the research is to provide a comprehensive overview and analysis of the negotiation between global processes and local experiences in educational context. The case study research conducted in Madrasah Bertaraf Internasional (MBI) Amanatul Ummah located in Kembang Belor Village,Jatiwening, Pacet, Mojokerto, East Java. Based on qualitative methodology, data were collected using a variety of techniques, including formal and informal interviews, participant observation, and document analysis. Once collected, the data were read repeatedly in an effort to identify important and relevant themes. The results revealed that global-local adoption process in Madrasah Bertaraf Internasional (MBI) Amanatul Ummah based on the principle of Al-Muhafadzatu 'ala al-Qadeem al-Salih al-Akhdzu Bi Wa al-Jadid al-Ashlah (keeping the old traditions of good and take the new things that better). That is because the madrasah and its �mother� namely pesantren are still the main agents of Islamic traditionalism, which act as a filter for strange elements. At the same time, the adaptation process requires to be constantly carried out in accordance with demands of the eras and social changes. Thus the madrasah and pesantren with the implementation of the principle of Al-Muhafadzatu 'ala al-Qadeem al-Salih al-Akhdzu Bi Wa al-Jadid al- Ashlah have a tendency to anticipate the changes. The research also found that the configuration of the global knowledge and local knowledge implemented in Madrasah Bertaraf Internasional (MBI) Amanatul Ummah according to Triplization Paradigm of Education theory, applied the theory of tree, where the process of knowledge management on the one hand had its roots in the local values and traditions, and on the other side also absorbed global knowledge system resources that are useful and relevant.
