Abstract

The scope of this research is noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) on the machinery operator at the ferry crossing of Ketapang-Gilimanuk, the objective of this research was to analyze the prevalence of sensorineural hearing loss and the affect of factors the operator of ferry machine at Ketapang-Gilimanuk crossing. This was an observational with cross sectional design in March-July 2013, the technique for collecting data used questionnaires with interviews, noise intensity measurements machinery spaces and audiometric examination. The population in this study was 319 machine operators ferry. The sample was 66 operators who were selected with the inclusion criteria randomly. The study results showed noise intensity ferry machinery spaces was magnitude 80.5 - 89.4 dBA, noise intensity of 36% ship were ≤ 85 dBA and 64% ship were > 85 dBA. The audiometric examination result of the 66 operators showed (40.90%) of respondents had normal hearing thresholds ≤ 25 dB, (24.24%) respondents had conductive hearing loss and (34.85%) had sensorineural hearing loss. The age and length of exposure had a significant influence with sensorineural hearing loss incidence (p < 0.05). While the high intensity noise was not have significant influence with the incidence of sensorineural hearing loss (p > 0.05). Conclussion of this research are the prevalence sensorineural hearing loss on the machinery operator at the ferry crossing Ketapang-Gilimanuk is 34.85%. The age and length of exposure had a significant influence with sensorineural hearing loss incidence. Suggestion from this research are important decreasing the exposure time on noisy operations workers and the automation of activities and increasing the distance between workers and noisy equipment in order to minimize the noise exposure.
