Abstract

The film "Emak Ingin Naik Haji" by Aditya Gumay raised about hajj discourse in Indonesian society is interesting to study. As we know that hajj have a distinctive Indonesian Muslim community. Hajj does not just contain the values of worship, more than that hajj is often accompanied by social and cultural rituals. This thesis attempts to explore how the mass media to distribute the values of hajj to the community. This thesis is using a qualitative research with exploratory approach and textual analysis of film studies. Researchers dig deeper meanings of hajj undertaken by figures that exist in the film and analyze how the film was lifted ideologies Marxism (such as false consciousness,social class) and popular culture. The film "Emak Ingin Naik" displays the values of hajj who have suffered due to the fluidity of meaning hajj who "deviate" from the basic purpose of hajj is actually contained in the texts of Islam that has implications for the social reality of Indonesian society due to economic interests. Hajj can come up with a false consciousness of the poor who dream of hajj because of the influence of the environment are privileged. Hajj is no longer a mere worship, more than that pilgrimage has become a social ritual for the Indonesian people with the characteristics and traditions that can enhance one's social status. These values indicate that the Hajj is always working to introduce themselves through the goods they have, they find their soul in luxury, clothing, attributes that they wear and other consumer goods. The mechanism of one's position statement in the middle of a changing society and social control, now lies in the new consumer needs. So that statement a person's position in society, can also be constructed through the mass media, including films through the use of certain commercial products that exist in society.
