Abstract

The study purposed to find an Akt improvement, which play a role in decreasing of blood glucose levels in Rattus novergicus with diabetes mellitus which received hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy. The study was an experimental research with randomized post test-only control group design. There were 24 white male rats (Rattus Novergicus) devided into 4 groups, each group had 6 rats. Control group (C) was given intraperitoneal injection of citrate buffer and placed in a hyperbaric chamber with normal pressure (1 ata), OHB group was given intraperitoneal injection of citrate buffer and placed in a hyperbaric chamber with pressure of 2,4 ata and 100% oxygen, for 10 sessions. STZ group was administered Streptozotocin (STZ) intraperitoneally 50 mg/kg in citrate buffer solution and placed in a hyperbaric chamber with normal pressure (1 ata), STZOHB group was administered Streptozotocin (STZ) intraperitoneally 50 mg/kg and placed in a hyperbaric chamber with pressure of 2.4 ata and 100% oxygen for 10 sessions. Blood glucose level measurements performed before and after 10 sessions of HBO therapy. Akt measured from m. Gastronemius with immunohistochemical methods. The data was analyzed by Anova and continued with LSD test for Akt and Kruskall Wallis test for the FBG level improvement. There is significant difference on Akt expression between STZHBO and STZ group p=0.027 (P<0,05) and fasting blood glucode level improvement between STZHBO and STZ group p=0.0001 (P<0,05). The conclusion of this study was 10 sessions of Oxygen Hyperbaric Therapy at 2.4 ata for Rattus novergicus with diabetes mellitus could increase Akt expressions and reduce fasting blood glucose levels.
