Abstract

This Thesis examined whether there effect lemuru fish oil on expression Tumor Necrotizing Factor alpha (TNF alpha) in the rat periodontitis with diabetes mellitus (DM). This type of research in this thesis was the experimental research, the design used was posttest only control group design. By using Frederer formula, the number of sample 28 rats were divided into 4 group. The 1st periodontitis group, the 2nd periodontitis were given lemuru fish oil, the 3th periodontitis with DM and the 4th group is periodontitis with DM were given lemuru fish oil. Examination of expression TNF alpha using immunohistochemistry slides with TNF alpha antibody. The results of the Mann-Whitney U test showed that the group K1 with K2 (p = 0,02), K1 with K4 (0,02), K2 with K3 (p = 0,02), K3 with K4 (p = 0,02), there were significant differences on expression TNF alpha bone area insisvus mesial mandibular teeth with a value of p <0.05, whereas group K1 with K3 (p = 0.898) and group K4 with K2 (p = 0.159) has a value of p> 0.05 means there was no significant difference. These results indicate that lemuru fish oil has been showed reduce expression TNF alpha in rats periodontitis with diabetes mellitus. Lemuru fish oil containing omega-3 that was eikosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and dokosaheksaenoic acid (DHA). EPA and DHA could suppress proinflammatory cytokine production TNF alpha and DHA through GPR120 was an omega-3 function as a sensor in a macrophage receptor that could inhibit the production of proinflammatory cytokines.
